VERY GOOD: The cleanest most well maintained campground we have stayed at so far. This campground is owned by a Dutch family who takes great pride in everything they do. We would have given this an EXCELLENT but we like a little more privacy. The sites are a little close together but real estate here is expensive. We could walk to Lake Michigan and to some restaurants. The family had chickens on the grounds so we were able to get fresh eggs which was awesome!
Oak Grove Resort Campground
VERY GOOD: Our friends Lynn and Phil took us and the food was flavorful, flavorful, flavorful!!! Renee was in heaven. We had deep fried goat cheese croquettes with raspberry jam. Phil had the Eggplant, Tim had the mushroom ravioli with a lemongrass cream sauce. Renee and Lynn had the special of the day; jumbo shrimp over spaghetti with roasted veggies in a avocado pesto sauce. It was awesome!! Would definitely go back.
GOOD: For an app we had the warm olives and smoked fish spread with flatbread. Both were excellent. The fish spread is made with a cream cheese base so it is very rich! Lynn and Renee split a wedge salad, roasted beet salad and bacon and cheese pierogis. The wedge salad was ok but the beet salad and pierogis were very good! Tim and Phil had the veggie cakes, they needed a little bit more flavor according to Tim. Phil did not complain, he eats everything!!!
Sandy Point Beach House
VERY GOOD: We loved this campground. Surrounded by water and it had the feel of a state park! We decided to take a really inexpensive "super saver" rate since we would be spending our time on Mackinac Island. We would spend the extra for a waterfront site next time! Our site was good, especially for $16 a night, electric only.
EXCELLENT: Beer, Bloody Mary's and homemade hummus, it was all good. Our server was excellent and we had a great view of the The Grand Hotel. While you sip on your cocktail you can watch the horse drawn taxi's delivering luggage to the hotel from the ferry dock and brining people to dinner in town.
