We stayed in Richmond with our friends Tim K & Chrystie for the weekend. Chrystie used to work with me (Renee) at Bloomin Brands. She brought her daughter Camilla to see us at Pocahontas State Park, but Camilla only had eyes for the dogs.
We only stayed at the state park for one night. I rode with Chrystie to drop Camilla off at her mom's, then we parked Peg at their house and stayed with them for the weekend.
We had so much fun trying local beer and of course local food! I had fried oyster and kim chi lettuce wraps at Commercial Taphouse, they were spicy and delicious. I also had a mint chocolate porter that was ok, not great. The next day we went to a warehouse district and had some to die for local beer at Hardywood Brewery. The coffee stout and bourbon stout were excellent. Be careful though that bourbon stout is 12% alcohol. We met Jason one of the brewers there and hit it off with him immediately and before we knew what was happening he was packing up some free beer for us and would not let us pay for our next round? We were telling him about our friend Barry who is a Marketing genius at Motorworks Brewery in Bradenton. He knew their beer and liked it. Maybe that was our in? Thanks for hosting us Chrystie and Tim K!!!
We enjoyed Richmond, a city we would not have gone to if we we did not have friends there but would recommend a visit if you are in the area.
We also went to Washington D.C. to see Tim's brother Tyler and his wife Marysia. They are both lawyers and have a quaint little apartment close to everything, could not ask for a better location. We walked to Hank's where Tyler and Marysia treated us, well me, to some raw oysters. They are not Tim's cup of tea but he has been eating some local caught fish along the way. Then we went downstairs and had a great dinner. Grilled calamari, local fish, clam linguini and a veggie plate (for Tim).
